Strikers fans have once again proven they are the best in the league with Adelaide finishing KFC BBL|09 with the highest home match attendance figure of the season.
Finals inclusive, Adelaide was the only club to attract more than 200,000 people to home BBL matches this summer. The Strikers’ final attendance total of 201,120 edged out the Melbourne Stars (193,017), who hosted two home finals.
It’s the third season Adelaide has had the biggest home attendance in the league (BBL|04, BBL|07 and BBL|09) and extends the club’s standing as the most attended team in home fixtures since the competition’s inception with 1,439,050 fans since BBL|01.
The Perth Scorchers had the biggest average home attendance through the home and away season (26,600) in BBL|09 just ahead of the Strikers on 26,446.
Adelaide hosted three afternoon matches and three weekday night fixtures as scheduled by Cricket Australia compared to the Scorchers’ four weekend (Fri-Sun) evening timeslots.
‘The Knockout’ final at Adelaide Oval was also the best-attended final of BBL|09 with 15,995 fans attending despite intermittent rain on match day.
Adelaide’s New Year’s Eve blockbuster against the Sydney Thunder attracted the second-biggest single match attendance figure of the season (41,414) behind only the Melbourne derby (54,478) which was held on the first weekend of 2020 at the MCG.
