The Adelaide Strikers will kickstart a week of bushfire relief fundraising at Adelaide Oval on Australia Day, 26 January.

The Strikers’ blockbuster BBL game against the Hobart Hurricanes has been confirmed as a major fundraising event, in partnership with the Strikers’ major partner People’s Choice Credit Union, who will make a $50,000 donation.

The following weekend Adelaide Oval will also host the ‘Bushfire T20 Showdown’, with AOSMA linking with SACA, AFL clubs Adelaide and Port Adelaide, and the SANFL to stage the event to raise funds for the SA Bushfire Appeal.

Crows and Power players will take to the field alongside some special guests in the Twenty20 game on Sunday, 2 February, from 2.30pm.

SACA Chief Executive Keith Bradshaw said:

“We know many SACA and Strikers members and the wider cricket community want to support those affected by these terrible bushfires.

“We are pleased to support the Bushfire T20 Showdown by managing the event operations side of the cricket game and we also plan to find a couple of special guests to boost the teams.

“We will start the fundraising at the Strikers’ BBL game on Australia Day. We also thank People’s Choice Credit Union for their generous commitment. There will be a range of other fundraising initiatives for this match to be announced in coming weeks.

“Additionally, SACA and the Strikers have committed to spending $50,000 to assist community cricket clubs in affected areas as part of our bushfire relief support plan.

“SACA will also continue to look for ways we can help and work with affected communities in coming weeks and months to assist them as they rebuild.”

People’s Choice Chief Executive Officer Steve Laidlaw said:

“The scale of this disaster is beyond imagination – the biggest fire tragedy the world has witnessed – but the personal tragedy brings home the true cost of this disaster.

“People’s Choice will be supporting the newly-formed SA Bushfire Appeal with an initial $50,000 donation and we will be working with our partners, the Adelaide Strikers, to make every big hit count at their inaugural Australia Day Big Bash match.”

Further information about how to donate for the BBL game on 26 January will be announced soon.

Tickets to the Bushfire T20 Showdown game on 2 February go on sale through Ticketek at 9am on Tuesday, 14 January ($20 for adults, $5 for kids and $40 for families).
