All-rounder Tahlia McGrath will captain the Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League for the second consecutive year.

McGrath will be supported by fast bowler Megan Schutt, who again will be the Strikers vice-captain.

A member of the Adelaide Strikers’ inaugural squad, McGrath has been a mainstay of the side and was appointed captain in WBBL|07 as a testament to her development and leadership on and off the pitch

This year, McGrath played a key role in Australia’s undefeated run to Gold Medal glory in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, claiming eight wickets to be her country’s joint top wicket-taker alongside Schutt, while also averaging 43 with the bat.

The right-hander is Adelaide’s second-highest WBBL run-scorer of all-time and sits fourth at the club for WBBL wickets such has been her dominance and consistency with both bat and ball.

McGrath said she was proud to captain the Strikers again.

“I can’t wait to lead this group in WBBL|08 – I really enjoyed the experience of captaining last year and I am looking forward to working with Shooter (Schutt) again this year,” McGrath said.

“We have a super well-rounded squad and I am excited to see what we can achieve together this season.”

Strikers coach Luke Williams said it was great to have continuity with the leadership group.

“Tahlia did a great job last year to lead us to a grand final last season and after her experiences with the Australian team this year, has only continued to develop as a player and a leader since then,” Williams said.

“She sets a great example around the group and we are excited to see her and Megan lead us on and off the field again this year.”
