For the first time in its cricketing history, Afghanistan will host New Zealand and South Africa on home soil, as announced by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).
Afghanistan cricket has evolved significantly from its early days, gaining respect on the international stage despite challenges like political instability and limited resources.
The ACB has been working diligently to strengthen relationships with other cricketing nations. In a major development, ACB revealed via video that Afghanistan will host New Zealand and South Africa for the first time.
A planned one-off Test between Afghanistan and New Zealand, originally set for Noida, may be relocated to Afghanistan. Additionally, Afghanistan will face South Africa in an ODI series, marking their first bilateral clash.
This milestone is a moment of pride for Afghan cricket and the nation, providing an opportunity to showcase its infrastructure and passionate fan base while attracting more international cricket to the country.
Afghanistan captain and prominent spinner Rashid Khan was omitted from Afghanistan’s preliminary squad for the New Zealand Test series.
Reports indicate that Khan is expected to be unavailable for Test matches until November, as doctors have advised him to avoid the longer format due to health concerns.
Following back surgery last year, Khan missed significant playing time. With the Champions Trophy approaching, the ACB aims to minimize risks and will proceed without their star spinner.
