Ajinkya Naik has been elected as the President of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). Naik, at 37, is the youngest MCA President till date, succeeding President Amol Kale after his sudden death.
Naik, who played cricket at school and club levels, was an MCA Apex Council member in 2019 and became the MCA secretary in 2022.
Naik defeated BJP chief Ashish Shelar’s candidate Sanjay Naik by 107 votes in a one-sided election.
“I thank all the voters for their support. This victory honors Amol Kale’s achievements. I will work to continue his dedication to improving Mumbai cricket,” Ajinkya Naik stated.
Naik becomes part of a distinguished group that includes Sharad Pawar, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Ashish Shelar, and Manohar Joshi.
He hopes to elevate Mumbai cricket to international standards. Sanjay Naik will remain the Vice President. It is yet to be decided if elections will be held for the now-vacant Secretary position, previously held by Ajinkya Naik.
The MCA is affiliated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is designated to oversee cricket in Mumbai and nearby areas like Thane and Palghar.
