The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is the governing body for cricket in Afghanistan. It joined the ICC in 2001, became an associate member in 2013, and a full member in 2017. The ACB is also part of the Asian Cricket Council.

Abdullah Zazai, a Pitch Curator in Afghanistan Cricket Board participated in an International Cricket Council’s online workshop for Pitch Curators. The workshop was launched in 2021 and was designed to provide training opportunities through ICC-Certified pathways to develop more technical staff around the world.

The course was presented by the ICC Pitch Consultant Andy Atkninson, who has over 40 years of experience constructing pitches around the world. The course was designed to give an in-depth introduction to the fundamental knowledge required to support qualified pitch curators.

This course was delivered entirely online, and was instructed to include the following elements that are key to understanding preparation and maintenance techniques for cricket pitches:

  • Pitch Preparation and Maintenance Guidelines
  • Renovation Techniques
  • Soil, Watering and Moisture Loss
  • Drainage
  • Rolling
  • ICC Tournament Requirements

The ICC is committed to delivering a full range of courses to all its member boards and provide training opportunities to develop more knowledge to the technical staff around the world.
