The talented Takapuna Pirates’ wicket-keeping batsman has snagged his first ACES domestic contract to complete the full list of 16 for 2022/23 season.

Sunde has been a consistent performer in the club circuit averaging over 40 across formats for the past two seasons while also picking up 23 catches and 4 stumpings in 2021/22.

Head Coach Male Performance Programme, Doug Watson is looking forward to working with the “soft-spoken” 21-year-old.

“He is a mature young cricketer with a lot of promise and potential. Although he isn’t the most talkative person I’ve ever met, he will bring fresh energy and new ideas to the group.

“Our goal will be to continue his overall game development and provide opportunities where he can express himself and take the next step in his cricketing journey.”

Sunde is “stoked” to receive his first domestic contract and hopes to lean on some of the seasoned veterans for valuable advice in the changing sheds.

“A lot of hard work has gone into my cricket so far, so I am thankful to Auckland Cricket for giving me this opportunity.

“I’m mostly looking forward to getting to know the boys better and learning from the experienced players in the squad throughout the season.”

The Director of Performance and Talent, Daniel Archer is thrilled with the new-look High-Performance setup at Auckland Cricket.

“It is an exciting time for Auckland Cricket and our programmes, including that of the ACES. We are excited and confident about the pool of players we have across our contracted list and our emerging wider squad. There is a visible desire and motivation from all to contribute to the collective team whilst driving for growth and development themselves.

“These factors are so important in any performance environment. We are also excited by the personnel we have added to our team with key appointments across our staff. I have no doubt they will bring fresh energy, approach, and have a positive influence.”

Archer thanked exiting staff for laying down the foundations and their overall commitment to Auckland Cricket.

“It is important through this change that I also acknowledge the staff who have or are departing as their contribution and efforts are greatly appreciated and have laid a strong platform for our continued growth,” Archer said.

He also made a special mention around Matt Gibson and Ollie Pringle who have come off the domestic contract list from 2021/22.

“Whilst disappointing for Matt (Gibson) after an injury-interrupted 2021/22, he remains a key developing player within our ACES programme and as such, we are committed to supporting his development. Matt is a terrific young person and I know that his high work ethic and professionalism will allow him to continue to contribute to our environment and ensure he makes the most of his future opportunities as they present.

“I’d also like to thank Ollie (Pringle) for his commitment and contribution to the ACES and wish him all the very best on his retirement,” Archer on Pringle who called time on his domestic cricketing career.
