Sydney, 16 June 2025 — The Sydney Sixers have landed a major coup by signing Pakistan batting superstar Babar Azam for the upcoming KFC Big Bash League season 15 (BBL|15), marking one of the most high-profile signings in the tournament’s history.

Widely regarded as one of the world’s premier batters, Babar Azam will join the Sixers as their pre-draft international signing, bringing his elegant strokeplay and immense T20 pedigree to the Australian summer. Azam will be available for the entire tournament, including the finals.

Record-breaking talent with global pedigree

With over 10,000 international runs across all formats and more than 11,000 T20 runs in franchise and international cricket, Azam is a proven match-winner. He was named the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year in 2022 and remains the fastest player to 5000 ODI runs.

The former Pakistan captain brings extensive experience from leagues including the Pakistan Super League, Caribbean Premier League, and England’s T20 tournaments, but BBL|15 will mark his debut in the Big Bash League.

Sixers praise marquee acquisition

Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes said the club was thrilled to welcome a player of Babar’s calibre: “He is a world-class player and a proven leader. Securing Babar reinforces the Sixers’ vision of being a global destination club.”

Speaking on his signing, Azam said: “I’m very proud to be joining the Sydney Sixers. It’s an exciting opportunity to play in one of the world’s best T20 leagues and contribute to a successful, respected franchise.”

BBL|15 Draft and broadcast

The BBL|15 Draft will take place on Thursday, June 19, broadcast live across 7mate, 7plus Sport, Foxtel, and Kayo Sports from 4pm AEST. Each team is allowed to pre-sign one international player ahead of the draft, and the Sixers have capitalized with the acquisition of one of the format’s biggest stars.

This move is expected to drive significant interest in BBL|15, particularly among Pakistani cricket fans and global audiences who follow Azam’s career closely.
