The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly considering new international locations, including Saudi Arabia, as possible venues for the upcoming 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) Mega Auction.
According to reports, BCCI and IPL officials are evaluating Singapore as a potential site for the auction, which is scheduled for the last week of November. Saudi Arabia also remains under consideration.
Earlier reports indicated that the IPL auction would be held overseas for the second consecutive year, following the 2024 edition in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Saudi cities such as Riyadh and Jeddah have been mentioned as potential locations, but higher costs are possibly delaying the BCCI’s final decision.
Recent reports suggest that Singapore has now entered the list of options, with a decision expected in the coming weeks as franchises prepare for player retentions ahead of the mega auction.
The 2025 auction is drawing significant attention due to new retention rules and salary caps, making it more intriguing than previous editions.
The IPL 2024 Auction marked the first time in the league’s history that the auction was held outside India, a trend that could continue for the next edition. Historically, IPL auctions have mostly taken place in Bengaluru and Mumbai, with Goa and Kochi hosting on occasion. The first-ever IPL auction in 2008 was held in two stages, both in Mumbai.
