As Jay Shah becomes the youngest chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 1, the position of secretary at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now vacant, prompting speculation about his successor.

Since Shah’s unopposed selection for the ICC role in August, stakeholders have closely monitored the transition. Gujarat’s Anil Patel and current BCCI joint secretary Devjit Saikia are considered leading contenders, while DDCA president Rohan Jaitley’s name has been mentioned, albeit without significant backing.

As BCCI administrators deliberate interim arrangements, the 2022 constitutional amendment, which grants the secretary extensive powers, underscores the importance of strategically selecting a replacement to prevent a leadership vacuum in this influential cricketing organization.
