The Women’s Premier League (WPL) has extended its retention deadline from October 15 to November 7, according to a report.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had initially set October 15 as the final date for franchises to finalize their retention lists. This decision was made on October 15 and communicated to all stakeholders by the BCCI on the same day.

Under the retention rules, each team must maintain a squad of no more than 18 players, including a maximum of six overseas players. Teams are allowed to release as many players as they wish before building their squad in a subsequent mini-auction.

The budget for the mini-auction has increased from 13.5 crore Rupees per franchise for the 2024 season to 15 crore Rupees for the 2025 WPL season. In the inaugural 2023 edition, each franchise had a budget of 12 crore Rupees during the auction.

The five franchises in the WPL are Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and UP Warriorz.

Smriti Mandhana leads the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, while Harmanpreet Kaur guided the Mumbai Indians to victory in the league’s inaugural season.
