The BCCI has implemented stricter regulations following Team India’s loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. According to Sports Now, cricketers’ wives and families will no longer be permitted to stay for the entirety of overseas tours. They will be allowed a maximum of 14 days on tours lasting 45 days or longer. The decision was reportedly finalized during the recent Annual General Meeting.
Previously, the wives of players like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were present for all matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In addition to limiting family time, the BCCI has mandated that all team members travel exclusively by the team bus, disallowing separate travel arrangements.
India recently lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 1-3 defeat in the five-match Test series against Australia, marking the end of their 10-year hold on the trophy. This was also India’s second consecutive Test series loss, following a 0-3 defeat to New Zealand at home before touring Australia.
Additionally, the BCCI is reportedly considering introducing a performance-based pay structure for players. Under an existing incentive system introduced in the 2022-23 season, Test players who participate in over 50% of matches receive ₹30 lakh per game, increasing to ₹45 lakh per game for those playing at least 75% of matches.
According to The Indian Express, the new proposal aims to enhance player accountability. Under this system, players may face pay cuts if their performance falls below expectations.
