The BCCI‘s financial health improved significantly this year, with an increase of approximately Rs 4200 crore, bringing its total earnings to a substantial Rs 20,686 crore. A large portion of the board’s revenue is derived from IPL media rights and bilateral cricket rights.
As the largest cricket market in the world, India also contributes a significant share of the revenue generated by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
In June 2022, the IPL media rights were sold for a staggering Rs 48,390 crore for a five-year period. “The cash and bank balance of BCCI has increased from Rs 16,493 crores in FY2023 to INR 20,686 crores in FY 2024. This is an increase of approximately INR 4,200 crore,” stated a BCCI document obtained by PTI.
The board had projected an income of Rs 7,476 crore for FY23-24, but actual earnings reached Rs 8,995 crore. The general fund also rose from Rs 6,365 crore to Rs 7,988 crore.
For FY24-25, the BCCI is expected to earn Rs 10,054 crore, with total budgeted expenditure set at Rs 2,348 crore.
The 38 state units under the BCCI rely heavily on the board’s annual grants, with the budgeted amounts allocated to these associations standing at Rs 499 crore.
