Brisbane Heat
The Brisbane Heat are an Australian professional cricket team competing in the Big Bash League (BBL), representing both men's and women's cricket. Based in Brisbane, Queensland, the Heat succeeded the Queensland Bulls, who played in the former KFC Twenty20 Big Bash. The team wears a teal uniform and plays at the Brisbane Cricket Ground, known as The Gabba.

Three games remain in this summer’s KFC Big Bash League competition and the finals chances for the Brisbane Heat remain firmly in the club’s own hands.

Last night’s 71-run win over the ladder-leading Melbourne Stars has moved the Heat into fifth place on the ladder and back into finals contention, however with three games remaining in the regular season, there is still much to play out.

The Stars, Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Sixers have locked themselves into the top three, leaving the Heat (12 points) to battle it out with the Perth Scorchers (12), Sydney Thunder (11) and Hobart Hurricanes (11) for the final two remaining knockout spots.

Such is the closeness of the competition; the Heat can finish anywhere between fourth and seventh.

Each of the Thunder, Scorchers and Hurricanes play today, and their results are set to have massive ramifications on who plays finals.

Remaining Games:

Sunday Jan 26

Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers at 1:45pm AEDT
Adelaide Strikers vs Hobart Hurricanes at 6:10pm AEDT

Monday Jan 27

Melbourne Renegades vs Brisbane Heat at 1:45pm

The Scenarios:

Should the Thunder and Hurricanes both lose today, the Heat will be guaranteed a spot in the finals. If this was to happen, the club would need a massive win against the Renegades on Monday to go level with the Scorchers on 14 points then overtake them on Net Run Rate (NRR). This would leave the Heat in fourth and hosting Perth at the Gabba in The Eliminator.

If the Thunder and Hurricanes lose, plus the Heat go down to the Renegades, then the club would be set for an elimination showdown in the west on Thursday.

Should either the Hurricanes or Thunder win today, then it would likely change Monday’s match at Marvel Stadium into a must-win game.

The Thunder versus Scorchers game is particularly crucial. If the Thunder were to win, then it would give the Heat a better chance of hosting a final by finishing fourth, however it also requires a win on Monday for this to happen.

It’s all still a bit confusing, but it should make for a pulsating two days of BBL action!
