The Brisbane Heat wishes foundation player and captain James Hopes every success in his new role with the Hobart Hurricanes that was announced today.

Hopes, who has worked as an assistant coach with the Heat after retiring from playing in 2016, will join the Hurricanes as bowling coach where he will work with new Hobart coach Jeff Vaughan and fellow assistant Darren Berry.

He will also expand on his relationship with newly appointed Hurricanes Head of Strategy Ricky Ponting, with whom he has previously  worked alongside at the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.

The allrounder played 84 ODIs and 12 T20s for Australia, as well 30 BBL games for the Heat, taking 24 wickets.

Hopes has also resigned from Queensland Cricket where he has been part of the coaching staff for the past five years.

QC General Manager – Elite Teams, Performance & Pathways. Bennett King, thanked Hopes for his lengthy commitment to Queensland Cricket and the Brisbane Heat.

“James has been an integral member of the Bulls coaching staff more than five years and will obviously be missed, however his contribution to Queensland Cricket and its past success is written into our history. It will remain forever as will our ongoing friendship and memories.”

The Heat and QC will review their coaching requirements before finalising their off-field structure under head coach Wade Seccombe for the coming season.
