The Brisbane Heat and Queensland Cricket have marked today’s Teal Ribbon Day – an annual day of awareness and support for Australians living with ovarian cancer – with a $15,000 donation to Ovarian Cancer Australia (OCA).

The Heat made the donation following the fifth running of Teal Heels earlier this year – the club’s annual OCA event fundraiser held during the KFC Big Bash League season at the Queensland Cricketers’ Club.

The 2019-20 BBL season marked the sixth year of OCA as the Heat’s Official Charity Partner, during which time $72,000 has been raised through Teal Heels and various other fundraisers and initiatives.

Chief Executive Officer Terry Svenson said QC was proud to partner with OCA and show support on Teal Ribbon Day.

“Ovarian Cancer Australia has been a great partner of Queensland Cricket and the Brisbane Heat for a number of years and we’re proud to make this donation on a day like Teal Ribbon Day that helps put the spotlight on ovarian cancer symptoms and awareness.

“This year’s Teal Heels was another uplifting event and we’d like to thank OCA’s staff and volunteers for helping us pull everything together. We look forward to another great night next BBL season and another year where the Brisbane Heat and QC can raise much-needed funds and awareness for the many Australian women living with ovarian cancer.”

OCA Chief Executive Officer Jane Hill thanked the Heat for their ongoing support.

“Ovarian Cancer Australia is so grateful for this donation from the Brisbane Heat and for our long-standing partnership. Thanks to everyone involved.

“Everyone in Australia can continue to help save lives and support women living with ovarian cancer on Teal Ribbon Giving Day. Today only your donations will be tripled. We encourage all Australians to show their support by visiting www.charidy.com/ovariancancer.”

Today’s Teal Ribbon Day donation continues QC’s and the Heat’s summer of community support that has seen fundraisers run for the Red Cross’s Bushfire Appeal and Foodbank Queensland.

During the BBL season, the Heat alongside skipper Chris Lynn and a group of sponsors ran a fundraising initiative to support the Australian families and communities impacted by the summer’s bushfire crisis.

Lynn joined a chorus of high profile athletes using their craft to raise funds for various charities when he committed $250 for every six he hit during BBL|09 to the Red Cross’s Bushfire Appeal. Lynn’s generosity was matched by the Heat, CUA, Betta and Epic Pharmacy where his 23 maximums for the tournament raised a total of $23,750.

The Heat also ran a signed jersey auction for the Red Cross during the BBL season where 20 individual player shirts and two signed by the entire WBBL and BBL squads raised a total of $31,208.

The Queensland Bulls and Fire have done their part to support QC’s Official Charity Partner Foodbank Queensland throughout summer. For the second season, QC has been donating $100 for every six hit by the Bulls and Fire during the Marsh One Day Cup and Women’s National Cricket League to Foodbank, with the 38 maximums across both competitions seeing $3,800 raised.

Support for OCA and Teal Ribbon Day can be made by purchasing a teal ribbon online or in-store at Chemmart Pharmacies, Terry White Chemmart, Black Pepper stores, Noel Jones Real Estate or selected Wynstan stores.
