KFC will strengthen its ties with Queensland Premier Cricket this season after committing to naming rights for the new-look KFC T20 Max competition later this year.
KFC will strengthen its ties with Queensland Premier Cricket this season after committing to naming rights for the new-look KFC T20 Max competition later this year.
KFC will extend its long-standing commitment to T20 cricket which stretches back to the original KFC Big Bash and then the successful BBL which enters its 12th season this year.
Locally, they have also been staunch long-term backers of Premier Cricket, with the revamped format kicking off the 2022-23 KFC Queensland Premier Cricket competition in a new timeslot.
The Men’s competition will be held in August and September, with all 12 Premier clubs competing.
Matches will be played at Premier club grounds and under lights at the newly redeveloped Allan Border Field.
Men’s games will be played across two weeks from 18 August to 4 September, with the Final at Allan Border Field coinciding with the Brisbane Heat Family Day.
Each club will be able to sign three interstate recruits, as well as regional players to complement their existing teams, with contracted Queensland Bulls and Brisbane Heat players available for selection.
The Heat will keep open contract spots on its 2022-23 list to provide opportunities for players who impress to potentially join the BBL club.
The Katherine Raymont Shield T20 competition will also be played under the new T20 Max banner, with the women’s competition taking place in its usual timeslot which complements the preparation for the Weber Women’s Big Bash League.
Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said the competition provided Premier clubs with the chance to showcase their players as well as to highlight their local club sponsors.
“We’re delighted that KFC has backed this competition which gives contracted players and premier club players the chance to impress leading into the BBL and domestic cricket seasons,’’ he said.
“It is designed to strengthen the pathway to the BBL for aspiring players and provide a high quality T20 opportunity for current BBL players.

“The Brisbane Heat is encouraging this pathway by ensuring some 2022-23 contracts remain available until after the conclusion of the KFC T20 Max series,” he said.

Based in Brisbane, Queensland, the Heat succeeded the Queensland Bulls, who played in the former KFC Twenty20 Big Bash. The team wears a teal uniform and plays at the Brisbane Cricket Ground, known as The Gabba.
