The Weber WBBL|09 competition gets underway on 19 October, with the highlight for Brisbane featuring five WBBL Heat games at Allan Border Field this summer as well as one match in Mackay.
The Heat will host the opening fixture of the 2023-24 KFC Big Bash League season.
The Heat’s mantra of ‘We Are Summer’ will ring true as the Melbourne Stars travel to the Gabba for Opening Night in BBL|13 on Thursday December 7, followed by four more games on the hallowed Brisbane turf in the peak of the summer and festive season holidays.
The Heat has retained the marquee January 1 timeslot against the Sydney Sixers which will see the second running of the New Year’s Bash (NYB).
The inaugural NYB, featuring performances by Oz music headliners Peking Duk, Ball Park Music, and Stace Cadet + KLP, was a smash hit last summer, with the club recording its biggest crowd since the pre-COVID seasons, complemented by a national TV audience of over 850,000 viewers.
The Big Bash will gear up next week when the International Player Drafts are held for both competitions, the first time the WBBL has had a player draft.
This will again be a televised event on Fox Cricket and Kayo Sports, with the WBBL draft taking place from 3pm, ahead of the BBL draft from 4.30pm.
Player nominations have again been strong across both WBBL and BBL, with Platinum draft picks to be revealed just prior to the Drafts.
Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s General Manager of Big Bash Leagues, said:
“The calibre of players nominating for the upcoming Drafts is really exciting and its no doubt going to give Clubs some tough decisions to make.
“We know how much overseas players love coming to Australia and taking part in the WBBL and to have another four world-class athletes return is a testament to that.
“Fans should be excited about some of the new faces we’re seeing nominate for the BBL Draft and with a shortened season, I encourage them to secure their tickets to what’s building as a cracking summer of Big Bash action.”
