Lions Cricket aims to foster a deep passion for cricket by advancing the sport through high-quality teams, nurturing club and school cricket, and providing a premier stadium experience. The organization also seeks to use cricket to drive inclusive and sustainable economic, social, and environmental change.

Last night saw the Central Gauteng Lions (CGL) awards ceremony celebrate players, coaches, officials and staff following an incredibly challenging season given the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Themed #Gratitude, the CGL family reflected on a season like no other. A season that resulted in funds raised and food parcels donated. A season that saw the Lions family launch a gender-based violence campaign to raise awareness of South Africa’ high level of femicide. A season, that despite the odds and the lockdown, the players, staff, partners and NGO’s powered through together, in an effort to keep both cricket and the Central Gauteng Lions brand immune to the hard-hitting challenges, with over R5mil worth of food parcels donated to various communities and families,” commented CGL Marketing and Communications Manager Wanele Mngomezulu.

“A hearty congratulations and huge thank you to all our winners and every role player that made this past season possible. My heart bursts with pride at your achievements despite the world’s circumstances. I asked this Province to hold hands and work together as a team and every single person did just that which I am immensely proud of and grateful for. To those cricket loving members of CGL who missed out on awards last night, know that you are important, appreciated, brilliant and your time to shine will come. CGL is excited with all the winter cricket on the go at the moment and the matches planned for the off season, cricket is certainly alive and well within our great Province. I am equally excited for the new season ahead, because I have no doubt that we’re set to come out firing come 2021/22 as we strive to love more, grow more, contribute more and win more,” smiled CGL CEO Jono Leaf-Wright.

Highlights of the CGL Awards can be found on our social media channels (YouTube and Facebook). All Covid-19 protocols were observed.
