Now in it’s second year, the Imperial Lions and Central Gauteng Lions are delighted to once again proudly partner with the NPO, FEED SA. The partnership aims to provide some relief and assistance to those communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Such relief comes during the Mandela month of July, with the end goal of raising enough funds to pack and provide 5000 personal hygiene/sanitation hampers to schools and vulnerable communities in the informal settlements. FeedSA’s Roxy Priebatsch says:
“Covid-19 is crippling thousands of children and people daily as they attend school and work without the necessary means to protect themselves against the pandemic, with many who also do not have access to basic sanitary essentials.”
Themed “Give the gift of human dignity this Mandela Month”, hampers cost R100 and include sanitiser; mask; Safeguard Body Wash; antibacterial soap bar; toothbrush; toothpaste; deodorant; sanitary pads; body lotion; Zambuk. The hamper packing will take place on 16 July at Imperial Wanderers Stadium, with all Covid19 protocols in place.
Wanele Mngomezulu, Central Gauteng Lions, Marketing and Communications Manager confirms the Union’s delight at their involvement once again:
“We’re passionate about this cause, which is why our players and staff are always hands on with the packing of the hampers. FeedSA do a fantastic job and are so valued and appreciated during this extremely challenging time. Once packed, all parcels will be transported to various FeedSA charities, schools as well as CGL clubs who will then assist with the distribution to the respective families.”
“Life is unbelievably challenging for far too many at the moment, and so to play our part is the least we can do. Lions Cricket focuses not only on producing good cricketers but also focuses on producing good people and us as a cricketing community making a meaningful impact in the lives of others speaks directly to the power of love that Lions Cricket is so well known for and has certainly shown over the past year with its partners in contributing in excess of R5 million in food parcels to families battling through Covid times. We are now calling on our fans to please contribute R100 towards this cause, so that together Lions Cricket with its loving and caring cricketing community can continue to make a positive difference in more lives of our great country,” says CEO of Central Gauteng Lions Jono Leaf-Wright.
