Perth Scorchers have secured another key member of their pace battery, retaining swing bowler Matt Kelly on a new three-year deal.
Kelly, who claimed his first MBBL title last Saturday, will remain with Perth until at least the end of the 2025-26 KFC Big Bash League season.
“I’m absolutely stoked to be part of this team and franchise for another few years,” Kelly said.
“I love playing in front of my friends and family and I love being in Perth for the summer.
“The Final (against Brisbane Heat at Optus Stadium) was absolutely incredible … I’ve never heard anything so loud in an event I’ve been part of while playing cricket. We’ve got the best fans in the country and we saw that on the weekend.
“It’s been an amazing summer and hopefully there’s many more years like that to come.”
The 28-year-old played an important role for Perth throughout BBL|12, taking 11 wickets at 19 from eight games, including two important scalps during The Final.
Kelly consistently swung the new ball and executed well at the death, emphasising his versatility at all stages of the innings.
Although Kelly sits fifth on Perth’s all-time wicket-taking list with 52 wickets from 35 games, the Claremont-Nedlands product is eager to evolve with help from the Scorchers’ decorated bowling group.
“It’s an amazing attack to be part of,” Kelly said.
“We’ve got guys who’ve played cricket all around the world, a lot for Australia, and obviously a lot for the Scorchers.
“For me to be part of that and learn as much as possible is amazing. I’m still developing my game so hopefully over the next few years there’s a lot more for me to learn.
“I think being at the Scorchers is the right place to be, so I can’t wait to learn as much as possible.”
Kelly joins the growing list of Scorchers re-signings, after new deals for fan favourite AJ Tye (one-year deal), express quick Lance Morris (two) and rising star Cooper Connolly (two years) were recently announced.
