Cricket Hong Kong, formerly known as the Hong Kong Cricket Association, is the governing body for cricket in Hong Kong. Established in 1968, it is headquartered in So Kon Po, Causeway Bay. An associate member of the ICC since 1969, Cricket Hong Kong also belongs to the Asian Cricket Council.

The Hong Kong Women’s squad to compete at the ACC Asia Cup Qualifiers to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from the 15th– 26th June 2022 has been named.

The tournament will involve eight teams competing across two pools. The top two in each pool will progress to the semi-finals. The two teams qualifying for the final will both qualify for the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2022 to be held later in the year. The Asia Cup brings with it an opportunity to take on the big cricketing nations in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Group A: UAE, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Singapore.

Group B: Nepal, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Bhutan, Bahrain

In preparation for the tournament the squad will arrive in Malaysia on the 11th June for four days before the tournament. In the absence of Chris Pickett who will be in Uganda with the Hong Kong Men’s Squad, Saqlain Ghulam will take over head coach duties, and will be supported by Jade Jets Head Coach, Niaz Ali.

Head Coach Saqlain Ghulam had this to say:

“The experience of having regular international cricket over the last eight months is going to be invaluable as we enter this tournament. We’ve got a well balanced squad with a huge amount of experience combined with some exciting emerging talent. We also welcome back Bella Poon who has previously been unavailable due to border restrictions in Australia. We also have Elysa Hubbard who joins the squad for her first tour, bringing with her a wealth of experience from her time in the UK system.”

Director of Cricket on the CHK Board, Rahul Sharma had this to say:

“The commitment shown by all members of Hong Kong Women’s squad over the past 8 months has been truly remarkable. Following this tour the players and staff returning to Hong Kong would have completed 35 days quarantine across three overseas tours since November 2021. It demonstrates the passion for cricket and the pride they have in representing Hong Kong. Alongside this passion we have a talented group that have our full support as they pursue both winning the tournament and qualifying for the Asia Cup.”

Captain Kary Chan had this to say,

“I am incredibly excited, as are all the players to be playing in an ACC Asia Cup Qualifiers Tournament. Though the goal is to make the final and qualify for the Asia Cup our focus will be on one ball at a time, if we do that I have every confidence we will be able to consistently put together strong performances. We have such a great team dynamic with everyone contributing to a positive environment. Despite the tough series against the UAE recently, we have taken a lot of learning and have become a stronger group as a result. It’s an exciting time to be involved in women’s cricket in Hong Kong and we’re all looking forward to competing in this tournament.”
