Cricket Hong Kong, China are pleased to announce their squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier, to be held in Nepal from 28th October till 6th November 2023.
The squad departed for Nepal on Tuesday 17 October and will participate in the Nepal T20I Triangular Series 2023 ahead of the tournament.
Nizakat Khan, the captain of the Hong Kong, China team, had this to say. “The squad is looking forward to some top quality cricket and showcasing our skills against other top teams in Asia! All of us up for the challenge to do well and win both the Tri Series as well as the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers.”
Hong Kong, China will play against Nepal and UAE in the T20I Triangular Series, and have been grouped with Bahrain, UAE, and the winner of the Sub-Regional A Qualifier – Kuwait, in Group B. Group A features Nepal, Singapore, Oman, and Malaysia; the top two teams from each group will proceed to the semi-finals, and the two finalists of the Asia Qualifier will then qualify for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The squad sees a few changes from the team that competed at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou. Yasim Murtaza has been named the new Vice-Captain, while Martin Coetzee is set to make his T20I debut for Hong Kong, China.
“The players have worked hard over the last few months to prepare for this tournament and exciting opportunity.” said Head Coach Simon Willis. “Under the leadership of Nizakat and Yasim, if we play to our full potential we believe we can beat any team in front of us.”
