The Hong Kong Men’s squad to compete at the ICC Challenge League B – Round 2 Tournament to be held in Kampala, Uganda 14th June – 28th June 2022 has been named.
This tournament will be the second of three rounds of Challenge League B. The third round is scheduled to be played in Jersey from the 2nd – 15th August 2022. After round one Hong Kong are currently sitting in second place behind Uganda. The first round was played November 2019 in Oman.
The Challenge League B tournament involves six countries: Bermuda, Hong Kong, Italy, Jersey, Kenya and Uganda. At the conclusion of the third round, the team finishing first will progress to the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off involving 6 teams with the top 4 gaining ODI status.
In preparation for the tournament the squad will spend 14 days in Namibia for a combination of training and fixtures.
Head Coach Trent Johnston had this to say:
“I am really excited by this squad and the opportunity to see them play international cricket for the first time since March 2020. The squad has a slightly different look with the addition of Yasim Murtaza, Zeeshan Ali and Daniel Pascoe who have all now qualified to play for Hong Kong, their experience is an invaluable addition. In contrast we have two exciting young pace bowlers in Ayush Shukla and Vikas Sharma touring with the men’s squad for the first time. It will also be Nizakat’s first tour as captain. His leadership is going from strength to strength and I am looking forward to seeing him lead this squad.”
Director of Cricket on the CHK Board, Rahul Sharma had this to say:
“We are confident and behind our boys to perform at their best in this extremely busy forthcoming cricket season where they will seek to qualify for the T20 World Cup and finish at the top of the Challenge League B in their quest to regain ODI status. Despite the pandemic related issues this is a very well prepared and a strong side. We are sure they will do us proud.”
Captain Nizakat Khan had this to say,
“I feel incredibly honoured to have the opportunity to lead such a talented group. We have a really well balanced squad with a great mix of players from those joining the squad on tour for the first time to experienced Hong Kong players in Babar Hayat and Ehsan Khan. Ultimately we have a group of guys that are all incredibly passionate about representing Hong Kong. It’s an exctiing period of cricket we have ahead of us and I can’t wait to get started.”
