CHK Women’s squad for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers announced

Cricket Hong Kong, China are pleased to announce their squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers, to be held in Malaysia from 29th August till 9th September 2023.

The squad will be departing for Malaysia this Sunday and will participate in the Malaysia T20I Quadrangular Series 2023 ahead of the tournament.

“We are incredibly excited to kick start a new chapter for the team in the coming weeks.” said Andy Cottam, Head Coach of the HK, China Women’s team “Starting with the T20I series in Malaysia, building up to the ICC World Cup Asia Qualifiers, and followed by the Asian Games later that month.”

“This will be our first International cricket since the ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, and a great opportunity for us to make our presence felt at the global stage.”

Hong Kong, China will play against Malaysia, Nepal and Kuwait in the T20I Quadrangular series, and have been grouped with Thailand, China, Myanmar and Kuwait in Group B of the World Cup Asia Qualifiers. Group A features Malaysia, UAE, Nepal, Bahrain, Qatar and Bhutan. The top two teams from each group will proceed to the semi-finals, and the two finalists of the Asia Qualifier will progress to the Global Qualifier in 2024.

This tour will be Andy Cottam’s first overseas assignment with the team since being appointed as Head Coach in June 2023. He will be accompanied by Ghulam Saqlain as assistant coach and Smita Chhetri as team manager.

“Qualifying for the ICC Women’s T20 Global Qualifiers would be a great achievement” said Hong Kong, China captain Kary Chan. “We aim to put in some strong performances and to make all our fans and supporters proud.”

Hong Kong, China’s first match of the Quadrangular T20I Series is on 22nd August, and their first match of the ICC T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers will be on the 31st.
