Congratulations to our Commonwealth Games gold-medal winning team for another outstanding performance on the world stage.

The Australians took the inaugural Commonwealth Games women’s T20 cricket gold medal with a thrilling nine run victory over India in the final at Edgbaston this morning.

Under captain Meg Lanning and interim coach Shelley Nitschke, the Australians were undefeated in the tournament which culminated in a wonderfully hard-fought final.

This latest achievement continues an extraordinary period for the Australian Women’s Team, who since 2020 have won the ICC Women’s T20 and Women’s ODI World Cups as well as the Ashes.

Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said:

“Huge congratulations to Shelley, Meg and the players and support staff. Winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games is a historic moment for Australian cricket and thoroughly deserved.

“This team has arguably been the most dominant in world sport over past few years and we are incredibly proud of their achievements.”
