Cricket Australia (CA) has congratulated the Australian Women’s Team on being named ‘Champion Team’ at the Women’s Health Women in Sport Awards on Sunday.

The awards, being held for the first time since 2019, saw the team shortlisted alongside Australia’s women’s 4 x 100 metre freestyle relay swim team, Adelaide Crows AFLW side, Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens and the Australian Diamonds.

Australia claimed its third consecutive team award off the back of another stellar period that saw the side retain its number one ranking across all formats.

During that time Australia also set a new world record for most consecutive One-Day International victories, recording 26 consecutive wins in the 50-over format, before claiming the ICC Women’s World Cup in New Zealand earlier this year.

Meg Lanning’s side also defended its Ashes crown and most recently, made history by winning the first ever women’s cricket gold medal at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

Cricket Australia Chief Executive Office, Nick Hockley said:

“On behalf of everyone involved in Australian Cricket, I’d like to congratulate the Australian Women’s Team, the coaches and support staff on another outstanding period and for this thoroughly deserved award.

“Under the leadership of Meg Lanning, Rachael Haynes, Matthew Mott and more recently Shelley Nitschke, the team has continued to build on its incredible legacy as one of the most successful sporting teams in Australian history.

“This is a team of wonderful role models who continue to inspire more kids to get involved in cricket and for that we are so proud.”
