Cricket Australia (CA) has congratulated the Australian Men’s and Women’s Teams on retaining The Ashes.

The Australian Men will keep custody of the urn after the fourth Test in Manchester finished in a draw, while the Australian Women achieved the same feat when their multi-format series was tied.

The Australian Men will take an unassailable 2-1 lead into the final Test at The Oval starting on Thursday, where they will have the opportunity to record their first series victory in England since 2001.

A magnificent century by Marnus Labuschagne (111) during a century partnership with all-rounder Mitch Marsh (31*) on the rain disrupted fourth day ensured the Australians defied the England bowlers.

Australia was 5/214, trailing by 61, when persistent rain washed out the entire final day.

The result means Australia will hold The Ashes until at least the next series in Australia in 2025-26.

Nick Hockley, Cricket Australia CEO said:

“To retain The Ashes immediately after winning the World Test Championship final is a great achievement by Pat Cummins and his team.

“We look forward to another thrilling encounter at The Oval starting Thursday where we have the chance to win the series in England for the first time in more than 20 years.

“This has been a memorable series in which both teams have played some incredible cricket and we are immensely proud of how the Australians have acquitted themselves throughout.

“That the Australian Women’s team also retained the Ashes despite a strong challenge from the home team is further indication of the high standards they have set for the game.

“Both series have captured the imagination of Australians and cricket fans around the world, with huge audiences demonstrating the importance of The Ashes and the pride we share in the performances of our national teams.”
