The Brisbane Heat have claimed the KFC BBL|13 title with a 54-run win over the Sydney Sixers in front of a record crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Defending 166, the Heat made early inroads with the Sixers struggling to form any significant partnerships, the home side eventually bowled out well short of the total.

Speedster Spencer Johnson did the bulk of the damage with four wickets in a player of the match performance, while BKT Golden Arm winner Xavier Bartlett and Mitch Swepson finished with two wickets-a-piece.

The Final attracted the one millionth fan to the Big Bash this season, with record-breaking attendances across both the KFC BBL and Weber WBBL helping reach the milestone.

A total of 1,005,506 fans attended the Big Bash across the summer, with tonight’s crowd of 43,153 the biggest crowd in Sydney in the history of the BBL, also surpassing the SCG record crowd of 41,027 that attended the Sydney Smash earlier this season.

It also takes the average KFC BBL Finals crowd to 25,756, the highest since BBL|07.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s General Manager, Big Bash Leagues, said:

“Congratulations to the Brisbane Heat on claiming their second KFC BBL title, they were the benchmark of the competition all season and will no doubt enjoy the win.

“The fans have been brilliant this season, attending in record numbers and showing their passion for the Big Bash.

“BBL|13 has been a brilliant season in so many ways and it wouldn’t have been possible without our players, Clubs and the support of our partners, including Seven, Foxtel, Kayo, SEN, KFC, Toyota and BKT.”
