Cricket Australia has selected headspace National Youth Mental Health Foundation as the official charity partner for the Vodafone Ashes day-night Test in Hobart.

Fans attending the Hobart Test, as well as those watching at home, will be encouraged to support the mental health of young Australians by donating to donatehsdevonport.com.

Following the recent tragedy at Hillcrest Primary School in Devonport, all funds raised will contribute to the important work of headspace Devonport and support the mental health and wellbeing of young people in the community. This could include counselling sessions and group work for young people, their family and friends.

Entry to Day 5 of the fifth men’s Ashes Test between Australia and England at Blundstone Arena will be by donation via ticketek.com.au/cricket, with all proceeds going to headspace Devonport.

headspace CEO Jason Trethowan said:

“We are incredibly excited to be partnering with Cricket Australia. Wonderful initiatives like this not only drive important conversations and bring the community together, but also contribute to the crucial work we do at headspace in providing a stigma-free service focussed on early intervention.

“It’s critical to have somewhere safe for young people to go where they can talk openly and support their wellbeing.”

Jeremy Rockliff, Tasmanian Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing said:

“I commend Cricket Australia for selecting headspace National Youth Mental Health Foundation as Cricket Australia’s Charity Partner for the Ashes day-night Test, which will directly support the work that headspace Devonport is currently doing within the local Tasmanian community.

“The tragedy that occurred at Hillcrest Primary School in Devonport in December has been utterly heartbreaking and unfathomable for families involved, as well as deeply affecting the broader Devonport community.

“Significant state-wide resources, including headspace Devonport, were immediately mobilised to ensure people in need of support received assistance, and they continue to play an important role in supporting the community during this extremely difficult time.”

Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said:

“Following the recent tragedy at Hillcrest Primary School in Devonport, we thought it was important to support the community and are proud to partner with headspace Devonport, who are providing critical local support services.”
