Pick up your bat, pack your cricket bag and get ready for a big season. Play Cricket month has commenced nationwide.

With the season approaching fast, now is the time for kids to register with their local club or Woolworths Cricket Blast centre at playcricket.com.au. Registrations are already ahead of this time last season indicating how eager kids are to get out and play cricket again and reconnect with friends and communities.

Despite COVID-19 disruption last season, registered junior cricket participation rose across Australia for junior cricket and Woolworths Cricket Blast by 2%. This was headlined by a 17.5% increase in registered female participation, with young girls now accounting for one-fifth of all participants in Woolworths Cricket Blast.

Cricket Australia Head of Participation Stuart Whiley said:

“Woolworths Cricket Blast has been the first step that many kids have taken into cricket across the country and is a program dedicated to helping develop and nurture passion for cricket in the next generation of talent.

“It’s been pleasing to see the continued growth in registered participation over the last 12 months and that particularly young girls continue to join our sport on the back of the world champion Australian women’s team, the WBBL and the high profile CommBank campaign.

“Last season in some regions Woolworths Cricket Blast and junior cricket provided the first opportunity for kids to play sport after a period in isolation. We’re hopeful cricket will again provide the opportunity for friends, teammates and families to connect.”

Woolworths Cricket Blast programs and junior formats start from this October, registrations are open now and kids and parents can search for their local club by visiting playcricket.com.au.
