Cricket Australia is calling on all young cricketers to register for the summer ahead with the launch of Play Cricket Week for 2024.
Running from August 19-25, Play Cricket Week encourages young players across the country with all levels of experience and ability to sign up to play for the 24/25 cricket season.
This year’s theme “Cricket Anywhere” emphasises cricket is a sport for all that is not restricted to a field, backyard or beach. Across the week, all Australians are encouraged to showcase the versatility of the sport, sharing the places they enjoy cricket on social media with #cricketanywhere.
James Quarmby, Cricket Australia’s Head of Participation said:
“We are extremely excited for the return of Play Cricket Week for 2024. The focus of this week is on getting young players excited for the upcoming season, encouraging them to join their local Clubs or programs and experience the joy of cricket.
“Participation in cricket continues to grow year on year, particularly among kids aged 5 to 12, and Play Cricket Week is a key initiative to help drive this growth and ensure the future of cricket for generations to come.
“From grassroots to elite level, there is a huge summer of cricket ahead. Whether a player, volunteer, fan or casual observer, cricket is a sport for all, and we encourage everyone to explore how they can be involved.”
Play Cricket Week also coincides with the launch of Big Bash tickets on sale on Tuesday August 20, where fans from around the country can secure their seats to every BBL and WBBL game at early bird prices. Players from States and Big Bash Clubs will head out to schools and communities across Play Cricket Week to celebrate and encourage kids to sign up for the summer ahead.
