Summer’s best family sports and entertainment offering is back for its twelfth season, with the KFC BBL|12 schedule announced today.

The schedule delivers the best of the Big Bash to fans around the country – big games in world class stadiums in prime time, plus a host of matches in regional venues to bring the action to even more fans.

The schedule also includes minimal overlap with men’s and women’s international cricket, providing a fan-friendly viewing schedule and opportunities for players to take part in the BBL.

KFC BBL|12 will begin on Tuesday, December 13 when Sydney Thunder takes on the Melbourne Stars at Manuka Oval. The regular season will end with a return fixture between the two sides at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday, January 25, with the Finals series to begin two days later. The Final will be held on Saturday, February 4.

After two heavily interrupted seasons, fans of all teams will once again enjoy seven home matches in KFC BBL|12. This includes a triumphant return to Optus Stadium for defending champions Perth Scorchers, who played just one match at The Furnace in KFC BBL|11.

In all, the BBL will be showcased in 17 venues this season including three new venues, with Lavington Sports Ground in Albury, Cazalys Stadium in Cairns and North Sydney Oval to host home matches for Sydney Thunder, Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers respectively for the first time.

The schedule also features all of the League’s marquee fixtures, including:

  • KFC BBL|11 Final rematches between the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers on December 17 (Optus Stadium) and January 15 (SCG)
  • The competition’s milestone 500th match on December 20 between the Adelaide Strikers and the Sixers at Adelaide Oval.
  • Melbourne Derbies on January 3 (MCG) and January 14 (Marvel Stadium)
  • Sydney Derbies on January 8 (Sydney Showground Stadium) and January 21 (SCG)
  • Hobart Hurricanes’ annual Christmas Eve fixture at Blundstone Arena
  • A huge Boxing Day double header, including the return of Perth’s showpiece match on that day
  • The Strikers’ traditional New Years’ Eve match at Adelaide Oval
  • A New Years’ Day double header, headlined by Brisbane Heat’s prime time clash with the Sixers at the Gabba

Host broadcaster Seven will show 45 KFC BBL|12 matches live, with every match on Foxtel and Kayo and further coverage on SEN.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s General Manager of Big Bash Leagues, said:

“The KFC BBL|12 season is setting up to have everything we love about the Big Bash – great players, full stadiums of home fans and the best nights of entertainment anywhere this summer.

“This schedule provides the platform for that, with a mix of world class stadiums and regional venues, opportunities for player participation and all the marquee games that our fans love.

“This, combined with other exciting developments in including the KFC BBL|12 Draft for overseas players, make us incredibly excited for the season ahead.

“We’d like to thank our broadcast partners Seven and Foxtel for working alongside us to craft this schedule, our Clubs for their commitment to delivering this season and our partners, venues and state and territory governments for their support. Additionally, our thanks also go to GotSport for their assistance in creating both our WBBL and BBL schedules.”
