Australia’s next generation of elite talent will be on display this April at the Cricket Australia (CA) Under 19 National Championships.

Initially postponed due to the pandemic, the State and Territory Associations have endorsed the Championships going ahead following CA Medical team recommendations and a proposed set of protocols to mitigate the risk for the competitions.

The Male Under 19 and Female Under 19 National Championships will be held to showcase the best young cricketers in the top age group of Australian Cricket’s Pathways system.

The Championships provide players with the opportunity to represent their states and territories while testing their skills against fellow up-and-coming cricketers.

Graham Manou, Cricket Australia’s Head of National Development, said: “The Under 19 National Championships are an integral part of the Australian Cricket Pathways system and we’re delighted our players will have the opportunity to represent their states and territories this season.

“The past two years have presented many challenges and it is brilliant that we are now able to bring Australia’s most talented young players together to showcase their development in April.

“We thank the State and Territory Associations for their support and collaboration in making the Championships possible and look forward to working with them to ensure a safe and successful finish to the season.”

Shawn Flegler, Cricket Australia’s Head of Performance, Women’s Cricket, said: “The Championships provide a platform for Australia’s most exciting young talent to showcase their skills and we’re thrilled to see the U19 tournament confirmed for April.

“These tournaments continue to provide important development opportunities for our next generation of Australian cricketers.

“There has been an impressive record of players transitioning from our underage championships into elite competitions and we look forward to watching the development of this year’s group.”

A full National Championships program is expected to return in the 2022-23 season.

This season’s Under 19 National Championships will be held at the below venues and dates:

Under 19 Male: 7 April to 14 April, Mackay, Queensland

Under 19 Female: 7 April to 14 April, Adelaide, South Australia
