Australia’s massive domestic summer of cricket has been locked in with confirmation of the Sheffield Shield, Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL), One-Day Cup and T20 Spring Challenge schedules.
Australian domestic cricket is renowned for providing elite competition that produces world-class players across all formats.
The 2024-25 season will be a platform for the game’s best domestic talent and emerging stars to showcase their ability while engaging in historic interstate rivalries.
The full summer of cricket schedule is available at cricket.com.au.
Highlights include:
- Four rounds of Sheffield Shield games before the NRMA Insurance Men’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy Series
- The opening rounds of the Sheffield Shield to allow for nationally contracted players to be selected depending on their individual preparation blocks leading into the summer
- T20 Spring Challenge played in a 10-day window across Sydney and Adelaide, creating an exciting build-up to the Weber WBBL season while increasing playing opportunities for domestic players
- Tasmania to begin their pursuit of a record fourth consecutive WNCL title against WA on September 24
- Western Australia will begin their Sheffield Shield and One-Day Cup title defences against Queensland (October 8-11) and New South Wales (September 22) respectively
- An action-packed start to the men’s domestic summer with six One-Day Cup games played on consecutive days across Sydney and Melbourne
- Each state to host at least three home One-Day Cup matches
- Back-to-back white ball finals on the one weekend – One-Day Cup Final on March 1 and WNCL Final on March 2
The complete domestic schedule has been created in consultation with State and Territory Associations and the Australian Cricketers’ Association.
Broadcast and streaming details for all competitions will be confirmed ahead of the season.
Additional fixtures and tour matches will be announced shortly, including the Prime Minister’s XI and Governor-General’s XI matches.
Peter Roach, Cricket Australia’s Head of Cricket Operations & Scheduling, said:
“I’m delighted to announce a full summer of domestic cricket competitions, where the depth and quality of players remains very high.
“The outstanding performances of our world champion Australian Men’s and Women’s teams is underpinned by the strength of our domestic competitions, which now includes the T20 Spring Challenge which will create more opportunities for elite female domestic players.
“Elite domestic cricket is the backbone of Australian Cricket’s ongoing success, and this competition added on top of the already strong WNCL and WBBL competitions will allow more players the opportunity to gain top level experience and showcase their talents.”
“We are also confident that scheduling games at a mixture of major stadiums and smaller venues will provide the best possible experiences for players and fans.
“We look forward to the beginning of our domestic season on September 22 and thank the State and Territory Associations and the Australian Cricketers’ Association for their ongoing support.”
