Australian Cricket is mourning the death of former Senior Code of Conduct Advisor, Gordon Lewis AM, who has passed away aged 88.

Lewis played a prominent role as the arbiter of a many high-profile discipline cases both in Australia and internationally as Australia’s representative on the ICC’s Code of Conduct Commission.

Beyond his involvement with cricket, Lewis was renowned for his work as a lawyer, Victorian County Court Judge, Director of the Victorian Law Institute and Victorian Road Safety Camera Commissioner.

During his time as Senior Code of Conduct Officer, Lewis used his expertise to uphold the behavioural standards of cricket, both on and off the field, while navigating sometimes complex and controversial cases.

Lewis is remembered fondly by those who worked with him at Cricket Australia both for his legal acumen, sense of fairness and his enthusiasm in serving the best interests of cricket.

“Gordon was a great character and (despite his legal training) he provided all his service in an honorary capacity,” said former CA Chief Executive James Sutherland.

“All he wanted was a seat at the Boxing Day Test and a tie from whoever the touring team was that season. He really made a great contribution to the game.”
