The Weber WBBL’s greatest players will be recognised when the League names its official Team of the Decade at the conclusion of Season 10.
The team will bring together the standout performers from the League’s first decade, whose on-field feats have proven the most entertaining and influential.
A panel of the WBBL’s most trusted voices has been formed to oversee the selection process. Chaired by Cricket Australia Director Clea Smith, the panel includes Mel Jones, Lisa Sthalekar, Matthew Mott, Quentin Hull, Laura Jolly and Alistair Dobson.
Fans of the WBBL will also have the chance to select their Team of the Decade, with public votes to be given equal weighting to panel selections.
A 50-player shortlist, also released today, has been chosen by the panel for public voting. Each shortlisted player has played a minimum of 60 WBBL matches prior to this season. The shortlist is available below.
Public voting for the WBBL Team of the Decade will be open between November 11-24 via the Big Bash App.
The panel will then review and combine public votes with their own selections to finalise the 12-player side, which will be announced at the Weber WBBL|10 Final on Sunday, December 1.
The announcement of the panel and shortlist comes on the eve of the Weber WBBL|10 Stadium Series, which begins this Saturday, November 9.
The Series will feature the world’s best players in the world’s best stadiums, with six matches taking place across the Gabba (November 9), SCG including the Sydney Smash (November 10), MCG including the Melbourne Derby (November 15) and Adelaide Oval. Tickets are available at www.bigbash.com.au.
Clea Smith, Cricket Australia Director and WBBL Team of the Decade Panel Chair, said:
“The first 10 seasons of the Weber WBBL have delivered countless memorable performances from world class players across the League.
“Selecting the best side from these players is no easy task but it is an honour for all members the panel to be asked to do so.
“Over the coming weeks, we look forward to building a formidable lineup with the help of the WBBL’s passionate fan base and encourage all fans to be part of the process by selecting their side.”
