Hobart Hurricanes have drawn the coveted Pick One in the Weber WBBL|10 Draft, granting them the first opportunity to add a world-class overseas player to their squad at this year’s event.

The order of selections for all eight clubs has been determined via the Draft Lottery, allowing them to assess the pool of player nominations and devise Draft strategies with greater certainty.

The WBBL|10 Draft Lottery order is:

1)       Hobart Hurricanes

2)       Sydney Sixers

3)       Melbourne Renegades

4)       Melbourne Stars

5)       Sydney Thunder

6)       Adelaide Strikers

7)       Brisbane Heat

8)       Perth Scorchers

The Lottery determines the order of selections in Rounds One, Two and Four of the Draft. Round Three is conducted in reverse order.

The Draft Lottery was conducted via two draws. Picks 1-4 were drawn from teams that did not participate in the WBBL|09 Finals, with last season’s finalists then drawn for Picks 5-8.

Confirmation of the Lottery outcome follows today’s earlier announcement of a two-year extension with WBBL naming rights partner, Weber Barbecues.

To celebrate the continuation of our partnership, and this major milestone in the lead up to WBBL’s tenth season, a group of junior female cricketers came together at a Weber Store to unveil the Draft order. Watch the video here.

Clubs may select up to four overseas players in the Draft. This is inclusive of any pre-signed, multi-year international player – these players must be allocated to a Draft pick during the event, commensurate with the player’s salary band. The fourth player selected becomes the club’s first overseas replacement player.

Dates and broadcast details for the Draft will be announced shortly.

The Draft Lottery was conducted by TPAL Australia in the presence of Club General Managers and League officials.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s General Manager, Big Bash Leagues, said:

“The Draft Lottery forms a major piece of the puzzle as we build up to the Draft and Season 10 of Weber WBBL. By gaining the number one pick the Hurricanes have a fantastic opportunity to add a world class player to their list.

“Last year’s number one selection for the Thunder, Marizanne Kapp, is an icon of the competition and we look forward to seeing who Hobart recruit.

“The order of selections is vital for each club as they build their Draft strategy, which is even more intriguing this year with the addition of the pre-signed, multi-year internationals.”
