Canada’s David Liverman has been recognized, posthumously, as the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) 2022 Long Service Award Recipient. The announcement was made during the ICC’s 2022 Annual General Meeting which was held recently in Birmingham, England. The Award which honors an individual’s commitment to cricket as exemplified by over twenty-years of service was presented, posthumously, to David Liverman in recognition of his outstanding dedication and commitment to Canadian cricket’s growth and development. It was received on behalf of Liverman’s surviving relatives by Cricket Canada’s President Rashpal Bajwa during the ICC’s AGM.

David Liverman succumbed to lung cancer on Saturday, January 29, 2022. He was a long-standing highly respected cricket administrator who played a major role in the development of cricket at all levels across Canada. Mr. Liverman was also a leading figure in the development and promotion of cricket in Newfoundland and Labrador. He was a founding member of Cricket Newfoundland and had also served with distinction as its President from 2017 – 2019.

David Liverman served as Cricket Canada’s Vice President from July 2019 to May 2021. He was specifically responsible for the organization’s governance during his term of office. His duties, which he fulfilled at all times with highly commendable competence, included ensuring that Cricket Canada’s policies and procedures were in full compliance with the expectations of both the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Sports Canada. He made sure that Cricket Canada’s established policies provided clear guidance to the Board and its Provincial Member Associations, as to the proper procedures in areas such as team selections and coaching appointments among others.

At the time of his passing Cricket Canada’s President, Rashpal Bajwa, had paid a glowing tribute to David Liverman on behalf of himself, his Board of Directors and the entire Canadian cricket community.

“David was a loyal son and self-less servant of Canadian cricket. He had a tremendous love of the game, and a profound knowledge of its administrative needs. His service to cricket in Newfoundland & Labrador was especially innovative and impactful. He will now also be remembered for his outstanding contributions to the development of Cricket Canada’s Strategic Plan, as well as the changes that have been made to its governance structure for the betterment of the sport within all of Canada! Cricket Canada President Rashpal Bajwa said.
