Canada’s Arnold Maddela has been included in the ICC’s Panel of officiating Umpires for the January 14 – February 5, 2022 Caribbean hosted U19 World Cup. Maddela was one of two Canadians initially appointed to the Panel. The other Canadian appointee Harry Grewal has, however, since withdrawn from participating for personal reasons.

The India-born Arnold Maddela is a West Indies Cricket Umpires Association (WICUA) Qualified Umpire who holds the distinction of having scored the highest marks in the 2007 Practical and Oral Exam (West Indies and North America). As an England Cricket Board (ECB ACO) Qualified Member and Cricket Canada Level 3 Umpire, Maddela has been officiating at international matches since 2007.

To date, Maddela has been involved as an Umpire in 11 international matches. He has served as a standing, on field, Umpire in 7 of those matches. He was also the TV Umpire for the remaining four matches. Maddela’s most recent involvement as an International Umpire was on November 12, 2021. He was one of the standing on field Umpires for the Bahamas vs. USA match during the ICC’s Antigua hosted Americas Region 2022 T20 World Cup Qualifier

Maddela’s involvement with Canadian cricket as an active Umpire began in 2007. Before then, in his native India, he had also officiated in matches there from 1990 – 1999.

Maddela has also served as President of the Toronto Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association which is the oldest and largest association in North America. He is also a member of the Cricket Canada National Umpiring Committee.

Cricket Canada General Manager Ingleton Liburd said, “We are extremely proud of Arnold and Harry’s appointment which is a testimony to their hard work and dedication. We also hope that their selection will inspire other Canadian umpires to strive for excellence.”

The sixteen countries ICC 2022 U19 World Cup will be played in four Caribbean territories, Antigua, Guyana, St.Kitts, and Trinidad & Tobago from January 14 – February 5, 2022. As one of the tournament’s sixteen competing countries, Canada will be making its fifth successive ICC U19 World Cup appearance and its eight overall. The Mihir Patel led Canadians will be hoping to improve on their country’s best ICC U19 World Cup performance to date which was its 11th place finish in 2010.
