Irish international Arlene Kelly has been named International Women’s Player of the Month by the International Cricket Council – the third Irish women’s cricketer to win the prestigious award.

Two Irish women – Laura Delany and Eimear Richardson – have previously won the women’s award, while Harry Tector was the first to prevail on the men’s side.

Winning players were selected as the standout performers following a vote conducted among a specialist panel comprising ICC Hall of Famers, former international players, and media representatives, and global cricket fans registered at icc-cricket.com, who had been voting since the nominees were announced last week.

Kelly, 29, was named in March as the Irish Cricket Awards Ireland Women’s Player of the Year. During August 2023, Ireland Women won an ODI series against the Netherlands 3-0 as part of which Kelly claimed 10 wickets at an average of 4.30 with a best of 5-12.

Responding to the award, Kelly said:

“I’m honoured to win the award for the month of August and grateful for the opportunities that cricket has provided. The series win in the Netherlands was memorable, and being able to contribute with the ball made it that little bit more special.”
