The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will turn pink in support of the Pink Ribbon campaign for the third and final T20 International between Ireland Women and Pakistan Women on Wednesday, November 16. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is supporting the campaign to create breast cancer awareness.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women, after lung cancer. The Pink Ribbon campaign is celebrating its 30th year in 2022. The pink ribbon serves as a reminder for women to get medical check-ups and appears on products with a promise that part of the proceeds will be donated to support breast cancer awareness or cancer research.

Both team captains, Laura Delany and Bismah Maroof, along with the players, match officials and commentators will wear the pink ribbons over the course of the match, while awareness messages will be displayed inside the Gaddafi Stadium.

Alongside that, the stumps and the backdrop for the post-match ceremony will be coloured pink.

Ireland captain Laura Delany said that the importance of breast cancer awareness cannot be underestimated:

“I think everybody has been affected by cancer at some stage in their lives. As athletes, we’re in a very privileged situation where we can use our platform to talk about issues that other people might face or have to go through. Obviously this campaign is quite close to our hearts, being female athletes and knowing individuals that unfortunately have gone through or are going through the early stages of this; to be able to spark those conversations, have those conversations with our teammates, but also draw any attention to this campaign that we can. It’s an opportunity to normalize these conversations in terms of the importance of getting checked out, and we’re more than happy to support the Pink Ribbon campaign.”
