Ireland Women’s performance analyst, Jay Shelat, is heading to India this week to join the support staff of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Women’s Premier League – the franchise cricket tournament starts 23 February 2024.

Appointed to his current role with Cricket Ireland in 2019, Jay is primarily involved with the National Women’s side as a Performance Analyst. In addition to his current role Jay has been involved within the Irish U19 Boys / Girls and Ireland Wolves set up in similar capacity.

Cricket Ireland has given permission to Jay to take up the short-term opportunity. He joins the RCB in the second edition of the WPL – a women’s Twenty20 cricket franchise league in India. The competition goes from 23 February to 17 March 2024.

Jay Shelat said:

“I’m really looking forward to this incredible opportunity to work at one of the biggest women’s franchise tournaments in the world.

“When I came across the opportunity to work with RCB, I spoke to Ed [Joyce] with the view of it being a potential career development opportunity. After interviewing and being offered the role, I joined up with RCB for the auction preparation and planning leading into the tournament.

“During the tournament I’ll be focusing on the analytics and tactics side, and should be with the team throughout the tournament, before returning home to begin preparations for Ireland Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier campaign.

“Thanks to Cricket Ireland for releasing me for the tournament and to RCB for giving me the opportunity to support the squad.”
