Following her excellent performances at the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa, Ireland international Orla Prendergast has today been named The Irish Times/Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Month for February.
The 20 year-old joins fellow teammates Amy Hunter and Gaby Lewis, who also won the award in October 2021 and November 2022 respectively.
The Pembroke Cricket Club allrounder was also named the 12th player in the ICC Women’s T20 Team of the Tournament at the World Cup.
Details of the Award can be found here.
Speaking earlier today on receiving the award, Orla Prendergast said:
“I’m absolutely delighted to be named as the Irish Times/Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Month. It’s a great honour to win this award with the range of incredible female athletes that have won it in months and years previous.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the recently completed T20 World Cup in South Africa, and while it is pleasing to receive this honour on a personal level, cricket is a team game, and any individual success speaks volumes to the team environment. I am extremely grateful to both my teammates and our management staff for the support I have received in recent years.
“While we came away from the World Cup winless, there are a huge amount of positives we can take from our performances. We know we have more in the tank, with the skill and ability to take on the best teams in the world. We’re looking forward to the upcoming home summer and taking on some of the best sides in the world yet again.”
