With the DafaNews T20I Cup poised at 1-1 with three games to play, Ireland all-rounder Shane Getkate was talking after training today about the series so far, his bowling and the support and energy that the North West crowds bring to a game.

Getkate claimed his career-best bowling figures in the last match with 3-20 from his four over spell. Coming on as the first-change bowler he extracted movement from the pitch, and combined with pace variations, he made early in-roads into the Zimbabwean top order and helped to stem the run rate.

Getkate now finds himself back at Bready where just over two years ago he made his One-Day International debut against the same opponents he is facing this week.

He said:

“Bready is a special place and it will be great to have the supporters in to watch this week. They are always vocal and get behind the lads, so that support is great to have for sure. I’m sure there will be a buzz about the ground and hopefully we can get a few wins on the board for them this week.”

He then reflected on the series and his bowling so far:

“Bowling our best ball and attacking the stumps seemed to work well in the first game, so that was the plan coming into the second game. Personally, it was nice to contribute with the ball and pick up some wickets in the middle overs. I think as a bowling group we stuck to our plans and they seemed to pay off.”

“In T20 cricket everyone’s role may change depending on conditions or situation of the game. The deck offered some assistance for the seamers, so it was nice to have that responsibility on Sunday and to play a part with the ball. Bowling in the power play can go either way, so I think it’s important to be clear and try execute the plans put in place.”

“As for the change of venue, Bready is looking well – we trained there today and the place is looking the best I have seen it in a while. I think the deck should be good and scores may be slightly higher than the first two games. But as a team we have the game plans to adapt to what is in front of us.”
