It oversees the national men's and women's teams and organizes the Inter-Provincial Series, Super 3s, and All-Ireland club competitions. The Texaco Sport for Sport Initiative’s recent winners announcements saw two successes for cricket, with Limerick Cricket Club (Limerick) and Knockharley Cricket Club (Meath) amongst 26 chosen sports clubs to receive €5,000.

The Texaco Support for Sport initiative, now in its second year, makes a fund of €130,000 available for distribution in equal amounts of €5,000 to one successful applicant in each county of the Republic of Ireland.

In 2021, Laois Cricket Club succeeded in attracting a grant, and it is indeed welcome news to hear of these two successes in 2022.

Chris Thomas from Limerick Cricket Club said:

“Limerick CC are very grateful recipients of the 2022 Texaco Support for Sports grant for Limerick City and County. We do not currently have any cricket facilities within the city environs and this funding will contribute towards us, through a partnership with Garryowen Rugby Club, creating a set of outdoor training bays that will enable local training opportunities for club members and assist with our local schools programmes. This is a significant step in fulfilling our goals of developing grassroots cricket, cricketing facilities and ultimately a hub for cricket in the Mid-West of Ireland.”

Asif Khan from Knockharley Cricket Club said:

“This is welcome news for our club and we are all very excited. We are grateful for being selected from what seemed to be tough competition amongst a number of sports clubs from Meath county. Being one of 26 sports clubs, that too in cricket makes it more special.

“Our club caters to a large and diverse population here in Co. Meath. We are a growing club and our newest members are mostly young, dynamic kids who will be in need of better services to continue their love of the game. This funding is going to greatly help us secure a pitch roller that will allow us to conduct cricket games in their best form.”
