Cricket Ireland and the Provincial Unions welcome the positive announcement from the NI Executive of a return to competitive cricket in Northern Ireland.
We will continue to work together with North West Cricket Union, Northern Cricket Union, Sport NI and Department for Communities to ensure a safe return to cricket in accordance with government health and sports guidelines. The NWCU and NCU plan to announce an update on the season structure in due course, however, it is anticipated that the season for Northern Ireland-based clubs will commence on Saturday 8 May.
While we are all eager to see a return to play for cricket clubs in Northern Ireland, all clubs are reminded that current guidelines must be followed regarding training group sizes and Return to Train protocols. Further advice on match-day protocols will be issued to clubs as soon as details are finalised. We will also continue to monitor the situation in the Republic of Ireland and how the Irish Government plans impact NWCU and NCU clubs based in the Republic.
