Ireland Wolves captain Neil Rock believes that neither COVID interruptions nor wet weather have distracted his squad from preparations ahead of Monday’s first T20 against Namibia A.
Speaking from the team hotel after finishing a training session, Rock Said:
“Unfortunately, we’ve had quite a bit of rain here since arriving, so our preparation hasn’t been perfect – but, that’s the way it is sometimes, and we’ve done the best we can to ensure that we’re ready for when that first ball is bowled tomorrow.”
Despite the limited ability to train fully, does he have an idea of what playing conditions will be like?
“The guys that have played here before say the pitch is usually pretty flat and good to bat on. As I’ve said, though, we have had rain the last few days, so we’re not quite sure what to expect and we’ll just have to adapt to whatever surface is put in front of us.”
Does he know his best XI yet for Game 1 given the COVID interruptions ahead of the tour, and wet weather since arriving?
“Obviously it’s disappointing for the guys who’ve tested positive, but that’s the world we live in at the moment, and there will be more opportunities for those guys down the line whenever that may be. Provided there are no more enforced changes, we have settled on the XI for tomorrow, but over the next two weeks there will be plenty of opportunities for guys to both get games in and also challenge themselves in different roles.”
