Cricket Ireland, officially known as The Irish Cricket Union Company Limited by Guarantee, is the governing body for cricket on the island of Ireland. It oversees the national men's and women's teams and organizes the Inter-Provincial Series, Super 3s, and All-Ireland club competitions. Ireland achieved Test status for women in 2000 and for men in 2017 when it became a Full Member of the ICC.

The Ireland Women’s team has recently competed in the ICC T20 World Cup in South Africa and is currently taking part in the International Women’s Championship – the top 10 ODI teams in the world over a 3-year period until 2025.

The Women’s game in Ireland has changed with the promotion to a Future Tours Programme (FTP) of regular international fixtures and with that the introduction of full-time professional contracts in March 2022.

Cricket Ireland is seeking a Women’s National Selector to chair the Women’s National Selection panel and help ensure Ireland selects its best players ready to take to the world stage and to be as successful as they can be. The successful candidate will report into the CI High Performance Director.

The position is a part-time paid role for an initial three-year term and will require the candidate to attend Super Series and International matches at home, and up to eight selection meetings annually, which will usually take place in the CI head offices in North Dublin or at a place convenient to the other Selectors.

  1. Purpose of the job:
    To be responsible for the selection of all Ireland senior women’s teams both home and abroad, the selection of the Ireland Performance Squad (IPS) and Ireland Academy/Development Squad, and the recommendation of player contracts annually.
  2. Principal Responsibilities:
    The National Selector is responsible for convening (with the aid of a Committee administrator) and chairing meetings and managing the selection of the Ireland senior women’s teams, Ireland Performance Squad (IPS) and Ireland Academy/Development Squad, and the Super Series domestic core squads.
    Liaise regularly with the Women’s Head Coach and Ireland Captain and provide help and support in selection matters.
    Liaise with the High Performance Director on the process and selection of Ireland women’s teams and Super Series squads.
    Liaise with the Women’s Head Coach with regard to the health and fitness of players being considered for Ireland selection, and other members of the performance services staff.
    Liaise with the Super Series head coaches on player performance and progress.
    Attend meetings of the Senior Team Management Group as determined from time to time by the High Performance Director.
    Be prepared to undertake any other duties related to the work of these functions as required.

    Review the selection processes and protocols periodically in conjunction with the High Performance Director.
  3. Criteria
    The National Selector must fulfil the following criteria in order to apply for such a position:

    Mandatory:
  • be involved in women’s and girls’ cricket
  • be available and willing to watch a reasonable number of Super Series and International cricket matches.
  • be available to attend CI selection meetings (approx. 8 per annum)
  • have a good understanding of Cricket Ireland’s strategic plans and player development programmes
  • have very good communication skills

    Preferable:
  • played or coached international women’s cricket
  • be available and willing to watch domestic club cricket in Ireland.
  • attend forums on best practice as advised by Cricket Ireland
  • have a coaching background

  • Super Series Head coaches
  • Women’s Team Operations Manager
  • International Teams Operations Manager
  • Ireland Captain and Players
