Cricket Ireland has today announced squads and fixtures for its 2023 Youth International Programme – headlined by an extensive fixture list for the Under-19s Men’s squad as part of its build-up to the 2024 Under-19 Men’s World Cup in early 2024.

Speaking of the schedule, National Talent Pathway Manager, Albert van der Merwe said.

“It is always an exciting part of the year when youth squad go on tour. Touring experiences are invaluable for players to develop, and the wide variety of opponents makes for an exciting number of weeks for our young cricketers. I wish all players and staff well over the coming weeks as this will not only aid their development, but also create lifelong memories and friendships.”

Speaking of the Under-19s Men’s schedule, Head Coach Peter Johnston said:

“Qualifying automatically for the 2024 Under-19s World Cup in Sri Lanka was a great pioneering achievement by our last squad and they have left a legacy for this current squad to benefit from an enhanced programme in preparation for the World Cup.

“Building on our successful pre-season tour of Pretoria, and thanks to the facilities at CSNI and our own HPC, we have been able to have regular skill development sessions with our Northern and Southern players throughout the summer. The majority of the players have also been involved in Academy intra-squad and or MCC/Future Series games, while a few have made their senior Provincial debuts – so domestically, there have been some great opportunities and experiences.

“Nothing beats touring for accelerating development and Ireland versus Scotland games have always provided the best competition and entertainment and I’ve no doubt this series will be another challenging one in Aberdeen. Jersey have definitely been a very organised team and one on the rise in recent times too, and we look forward to welcoming them to Lisburn for a home series. Such is the depth in the Under-19s squad, that we hope to give opportunities to a number of players throughout both series ahead of a landmark series against England Under-19s in Loughborough next month. However, YMCA and Leinster Lightning’s Reuben Wilson is currently unavailable due to injury.*
